Youth Code

Youth Code is a dance group based in Los Angeles. Their sound has a heavy retro tinge reminiscing of 80's Dark wave post punk stuffs. This is the real deal; pissed off  young dance frust that allows you to blow off steam regardless of location and company. This demo tape achieves the perfect blend of old and new, that's become the rave now days. Buy the tape and bring it to your friend's house party.

Terraform

  • Terraform is a two piece with an eclectic sound who started here in Florida. They recently relocated to New York, but not before they got to grace my ears at a house show here in Gainesville. I would describe it as some sort of jazz infused indie rock. Their sound is characterized by non-distorted guitars, jazzy drums, and smooth vocals with a hint of re-verb, giving them a familiar and vintage feeling. The Live act is on point. The mood moves in a wave through the set, gracefully shifting from spacey beats to unrestrained crescendos. 9977 is a cohesive yet dynamic full length release proving that the duet has spent significant time defining their sound.

Disco Prince

Twinkly emo goodness from one of my favorite places, Tallahassee.

Quiet Steps

Quiet Steps used to play a melodic and screamy sort of emo in the early two thousands. They since have become to sound a little less spastic and more driving. It is cool to see this band releasing material, let alone a full length album after being seemingly inactive for some time. Their sound in this album is dynamic, smooth, and easy to listen to. The release is cohesive, organic, and surprisingly entertaining. Give it a whirl.

The Whitest Boy Alive

The Whitest Boy Alive are an indie pop band based in Berlin. I love this album. I can listen to it the whole way through; for the most part, on most days. I got into them because of the skate video "Jereme Rogers' Neighborhood," which features three tracks from this album. Their sound creates a feeling of nostalgia in my case, reminiscing of European lounge music. The sound is simple, tasteful, and groovy; and the lyrics are great too.

Bear in Heaven

I got to know about bear in heaven from a pro spotlight video that transworld, adidas, and lucas puig put together recently. The song featured in the video was "Lovesick Teenagers," the song caught my attention from the beginning and is till stuck in head. The album featuring the song is "Beast Rest Forth Mouth." Their sound reminds me of bands like animal collective. The album is pretty cohesive yet varied in its sounds and tempos; a couple of songs have samba inspired percussion, and others have pretty a drony tempo, but the feeling is pretty hazy and mellow the whole way through. I would say that this album grows on you, but "Lovesick Teenagers" is an instant hit, and worth getting the album for.

Caribou

Caribou is an electronic/experimental Canadian act, I got turned on to it because "Odessa", the first track on this album was featured in a video Adidas Skateboarding recently put of a Greek tour with a tight line up of skaters (check the vid below). The album, although i have not listened to it too much seems pretty tasteful, varied, and cohesive. Odessa is still my favorite track, and worth getting the album for.
